Emergency Food Assistance to People Affected by Unrest in Syria
The project provided food assistance to prevent deterioration of the food security and nutritional status of households living in areas that had been directly or indirectly impacted by the unrest affecting the country. The targeted groups included people located in or near areas subjected to armed activities, populations who moved to less-affected areas, host families and communities,as well as poor people in urban and rural areas affected by the multiple effects of conflict, including the impact of economic sanctions. Food assistance was prioritized for displaced families who moved from their homes in search of safety. In line with WFP's Strategic Objective 1,the EMOP aimed to save lives and protect livelihoods in emergencies. The EMOP pursued WFP's Strategic Objective 5 through a capacity enhancement component for the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).
