To continue the malaria-based interventions carried out nation-wide in the Global Fund Round 8 Phase II grants in DRC that began in 2012. In addition to carrying out this work, the Intervention under the New Funding Mechanism will conduct mass distribution campaigns in 5 provinces (Kinshasa, Bandundu, Nord and South Kivu, Katanga) to replace previously distributed nets between Summer 2015 and December 2017.

%u200BThis grant builds on the achivements of the Round 7 and Round 10 consolidated single stream of funding (SSF) malaria grants in South Sudan. The grant will focus on addressing gaps in the key malaria interventions: vector control (ITN mass campaings) and malaria case management (diagnosis and treatment). In alignment with the overarching goals set out in the South Sudan malaria strategic plan, this program is to contribute to the national goal of reducing malaria-related morbidity and mortality by 80 percent of 2013 levels and to reduce malaria parasite prevalence by 50 percent of the 2013 levels by 2021. The targeted groups include children under 5 years and pregnant women, as well as the general population. Planned key activities include: LLIN mass distribution, net use campaigns to promote uptake and usage, distrubtion of ACTs and RDT, procurement artesunate injection, conduct a Malaria Indicator Survey, and antenatal care.

This program focuses on scaling up malaria prevention through the provision of highly subsidized long lasting insecticide treated bed nets (LLINs), addressing a large part of the needs in LLINs indentified by the 2008-2012 revised Malaria National Strategic Plan. The aim of Phase 2 of the RCC Program is to implement two mass distribution campaigns of LLINs in order to achieve 90% of the most vulnerable groups will be sleeping under LLINs by 2013.

This project's goal is to contribute to the national goal of reducing malaria related morbidity and mortality in the Republic of South Sudan, thereby minimizing the socio-economic impact of the disease. The project will focus on malaria prevention through long lasting insecticide treated nets (LLINs), parasitological diagnosis, prompt and effective malaria case management, commodity supply chain management and addressing gaps in service delivery. Through scaling up Round 7 grant gains in increasing access to artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACTs) by children under-5 through the home based management of malaria strategy, this project will address gaps in malaria parasitological diagnosis and quality case management in all age groups at all public and private-not-for-profit (PNFP) health facilities, while continuing country-wide distribution of LLINs.

Reinforcing the achievements made in malaria control in the movements towards elimination of malaria in Madagascar This program covers funding gaps in the Madagascar Malaria National Strategic Plan. The Global Fund National Strategy Application (NSA) contribution in Phase II will make it possible for the 2015 LLIN mass distribution campaign to be conducted in the 92 high transmission districts in the country, marking a switch to a one time national campaign, as opposed to staggered campaigns that have happened in the past. This grant will provide for 4.2 million LLINs to cover 42 of the targeted districts and PMI will provide for 6.3 million LLINs to cover the remaining 50 targeted districts. In addition, access to Intermittent Preventive Treatment (IPT) will increase, and the grant will also contribute RDTs and ACTs. The Program will focus on the entire population with special focus on specifically on pregnant women and children under five years of age. PSI replaced UGP as PR for NSA 2 from July 2014-Sep 2015. PSI will primarily focus on the national mass distribution campaign of LLINS scheduled for fall 2015, as well as routine surveillance, and ensuring access to efficient malaria treatment and diagnostics, diffusing IPT for pregnant women. In addition, PSI will be responsible for the Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) in targeted areas and the training of sprayers in intervention zones. The Principal Recipient will mainly focus on Community Strengthening by training health agents and will support community M&E. Pact (SR) will mainly focus on Community Strengthening by training health agents and will support community M&E, as well as operational research.

The NFM will contribute to the 2014-2018 National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP), which builds on the National Health Plan and the Medium Term Health Strategy Plan a well as the comprehensive and informative Malaria Program Review conducted in 2013. The NMSP aims to further reduce malaria-related morbidity and mortality as measured by robust incidence, prevalence, and all cause mortality indicators. The grant also builds on previous Global Fund Malaria grants from Round 3 and Round 8, which aimed to achieve high national LLIN coverage as well as extend diagnostic and treatment services to all, especially the underserved population.
