PASMO/Honduras will continue to build the leadership and capacity of seven young women mentors who work with young girls ages 10-19 in rural communities within Valle de Sula, Honduras. We will expand our reach to include three new communities and identify and train 5 new mentors to reach an additional 120 young girls who will be enrolled in Chicas en Conexión girls clubs. This means that by the end of Year 2, Chicas en Conexión will have enrolled a total 480 young girls between the ages of 10-19 in a total of 9 rural communities in Honduras. Mentors will be trained on leadership, gender equity, girls' empowerment, and prevention of teenage pregnancy prevention using PASMO/Honduras's Chicas en Conexión manual. Mentors will also receive training on developing age-appropriate dynamic activities for young girls. Continued coordination, lessons learned and technical support will be sought from Population Council's flagship project, Abriendo Oportunidades in Guatemala, particularly around retention of mentors and young girls in the program. An exchange visit between Abriendo Oportunidades and PASMO/Honduras is also planned to improve sharing of experiences, resources, lessons learned and to seek technical support.

The proposed Chicas en Conexion program will complement the Jovenes Saludables program but has a stronger emphasis on girl's empowerment. PASMO/Honduras will continue to work with boys and men as they are an integral component to addressing barriers as well as gender norms and disparities that hinder the well-being of youth in the country. Chicas en conexion will enhance our focus on girls, offering the opportunity to create safe spaces for girls and produce female champions for gender equity, girl's education, and access to ASRH information, education and services.
